We’re now well on with this project to install a new modular building to enhance Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) provision at Boulevard Academy. The modular unit will be located on the existing mound within the academy grounds, which is being repurposed to accommodate this vital expansion.
The project scope includes the construction of the modular facility on a piled foundation, with an accessible decked area featuring both ramp and step access. Landscaping improvements will also be carried out to ensure the new building integrates smoothly with its surroundings.

We’re currently in week 12 of the 19-week programme, and progress on site is going well – all foundations and piles are now completed, and retaining walls are well on the way!
Swale (a shallow drainage channel) has been dug out, and excavations are complete for the concrete rings to be installed to the pump chambers to control the flow of water, into the drainage system. Drainage works has commenced to the front elevation to tie everything into the existing system.
Following on from the piling, we have completed the steel reinforcement and the casting of the concrete foundations. We’ve installed the gas membrane, and completed the blinding to protect the membrane, and built up the retaining walls and pillars ready for the next stage of concreting.
Now the summer holidays are over and the pupils have returned, we have had a site visit from Kate, our Assistant Digital Design Coordinator, who’s taken photos of the site and is in the process of setting up a virtual reality model of the site. We’ll set this up in the school sports hall and engage with pupils and teachers to show them what’s happening and getting them involved in some engagement sessions.
Last of all, we had our Considerate Constructors Scheme assessors visit on Friday 17 September, and we have scored an amazing 45/45, plus an additional two points for best practices. This is the highest score achieved for an Esteem contract project, so well done to all the team for their hard work.
The next key stages in the programme are:
Concrete retaining walls – the first cast of concrete was pumped Friday 17 and second cast Monday 20 October
Delivery of the modules – these are well underway at Integra, and we have been for a site visit to check progress
IN THE UPCOMING WEEKS
In the next few weeks, we’ll be having the modular buildings delivered. The timescale for installation is just one day, and the fit out should be complete be Monday 15 December.
The team at Esteem have visited local supplier, Integra, who are supplying the modular building to inspect the development and check quality, and are very pleased with the progress. We’re looking forward to bringing it to the Boulevard site.
