PROJECT OVERVIEW

We’re delighted to be working in partnership with Bradford College on this refurbishment project.

Within the live college, the work is split over two buildings and on multiple floors. On floor five of the David Hockney Building, we’ll be stripping out and refurbishing the classrooms to provide Science and ICT rooms.

On the third floor, we’re creating a new mock nursery area and on the first floor for the ATC building, we’re creating a mock hospital environment.

We’re also replacing the chiller units upon the roof.

Progress so far

Site set up and strip out is complete across all areas, and the first fix M&E is progressing nicely throughout the scheme. The wall lining in the new nursey has been done, ready to be plastered on Tuesday. Next week sees the second fix M&E to the ATC and nursery, along with the raised platform, to allow for finishes to these areas. The continuation of first fix M&E to all other areas will also be progressed.

Our Assistant Design Manager, Amie, presented a Digital Construction masterclass to seven students at the College, which was well received. With technologies constantly evolving, it's so important to educate the future generation of talent on new and emerging technologies in the industry.

A student from the college also joined us on site for two days of work experience, shadowing our Site Manager, Harry. The student said:

‘My work experience with Sewell construction has been a pleasure. I've been given an induction, went on a site tour, and learned about the project. Harry, the Site Manager has been a great mentor and shared some industry ‘top-secret’ employability and technical skills. I've also helped facilitate external visitor tours and enjoyed sharing the knowledge I gained along the way. I'm now applying for degree apprenticeships, with high hopes and a wealth of work experience. Thank you once again for the opportunity!’

On Thursday 29 June, we welcomed four construction lecturers to one of our other West Yorkshire sites for an 'Industry Insight' work experience day.

Through the course of the day, we gave presentations on:

- Social value
- Sustainability
- Document control
- Waste management
- Site management
- Quantity surveying
- Health and safety

WHAT'S NEXT

  • Raised platform to the nursery
  • Installation of IPS units
  • Firestopping survey and remediation
  • Continuation of first fix M&E
  • Commencement of second fix M&E to areas
  • Preparation work for wall and floor finishes

Our fortnightly catch-ups with the Project Team will enable us to provide more meaningful experiences for the students. We will be providing more Construction Masterclasses to groups of students and work experience opportunities.
