About the project

Progress continues on the exciting transformation taking place across from the current stadium, where a new pavilion hub, top-quality multi-use 3G pitch, and expanded parking are coming to life. This development is designed to benefit both sports enthusiasts and the wider community, offering upgraded facilities for local teams, schools, colleges, and residents. With an emphasis on accessibility and adaptability, the space will easily accommodate matches, training sessions, and community events.

Once completed in the coming weeks, Costello will emerge as a dynamic, modern hub that encourages sporting activity and learning, fosters community connections, and provides a welcoming space for everyone for years to come.

Progress so far

Since our last update, the site has made fantastic progress. The new pitch is really starting to take shape, with the surface now fully installed, including the final synthetic grass layer that gives it a professional all-weather finish. New fencing has also been added around the pitch, and the floodlights are now in place, ready for evening training sessions and matches.

The pavilion is also coming together well. Roofing and joinery works have been completed, while inside, plumbing, electrics, plastering, and flooring works have all moved forward. Air conditioning is also close to being finished, helping create a comfortable and modern space for everyone to use. With the main structure now complete, work is turning to the final interior details.

Elsewhere on site, progress continues on the new car park, with groundwork and drainage now completed and lighting columns ready to be installed.

Week by week, Costello is moving closer to becoming a vibrant new hub for sport, learning, and community activities, creating modern spaces and opportunities for everyone to enjoy.

Supporting careers in construction

The site has welcomed students from Sirius Academy in recent weeks, where they took part in a hands-on bricklaying activity while also using digital technology to help assist them in creating BBQ structures.

This engaging task gave students the opportunity to gain practical skills, experience a live construction environment, and explore potential career pathways within the industry. It also provided an introduction to how the construction sector is continuing to move forward through the growing use of technology on site.

What's coming up next?

We are now entering the final stages of the project, with the completion set for summer 2026. Over the coming weeks, our focus will be on completing all remaining works to ensure the pavilion, pitch, and surrounding areas are ready for use.

Inside the pavilion, decoration will begin next week, bringing character to the interior spaces. At the same time, second-fix works—such as final electrical, plumbing, and interior tilings—will be completed, ensuring the building is fully functional and welcoming.

On the pitch, the finishing touches will be applied to the synthetic grass surface. This includes carefully marking the lines for training and matches, as well as spreading sand and rubber infill to provide a professional-quality, all-weather playing surface.

The landscaping around the pavilion will also begin next week, with our groundworks team transforming the area and providing new access routes as well as the new car park area and EV charging area. Pathways, planting, and other external features will create a polished and inviting environment that complements the new facilities.
