Project summary

During the last few weeks we’ve been busy on site, having set up the new cabins with office space and welfare facilities including the canteen area.

Various surveys have been undertaken, which have allowed us to efficiently forward plan the works for the project and keep progress moving swiftly. We have undertaken ground and soil investigations, floor level surveys, structural surveys and much more.

Our mechanical and electrical contractor has been on site installing temporary lighting throughout the building, as well as providing temporary power to all floors for the works. The first fix part of the works is well under way with progress being made on all floors. The first fix stage consists of installing the containment or tray and basket which allows the mechanical and electrical services to flow through the building with ease. Second fixing has begun on the second and first floors with a view to progress second fixing on the ground floor in the coming weeks. The second fixing consists of installing things like cables to the cable trays and pulling them into the classrooms ready to wire into the sockets. Other second fix works such as installation of pipe work for radiators is also underway. Heating and ventilation units have been installed throughout the second and first floor and louvres have been installed ready to connect up to the ducting. Various other trades have been working on behalf of our mechanical and electrical contractor to install things like security, access control and Building Management Systems. The Building Management System is an important part of the project as it helps to efficiently maintain the building when in use.

The drylining contractor has made good progress on all floors installing new walls to accommodate the required layout changes, which include a new reception area, new classrooms and various wet room areas including a hygiene room on the first floor. The decorating contractor has been following up behind the dryliners, mist coating the walls ready for applying M&E services and further decoration.

The groundworks team have been making alterations to the internal drainage to suit the new room layouts and they have also been busy excavating the footings for the new extension. Installation of the Steel Reinforcement is continuing in readiness for pouring concrete. The groundworkers are using electric plant and machinery so that we can gain valuable information for the future and help us become a sustainable business.

Over the next two weeks

Over the next few weeks we will be progressing with the mechanical and electrical installation, groundwork alterations internally will be finished in readiness for the room layout changes and the extension footings will be cast. Steel erection will be taking place which will provide the structure for the new dining hall extension. Our drylining contractor will be finishing off walls internally which will form the new rooms. Joinery works will be continuing which consists of installing skirting and architrave as well as MDF boxing works. We will also be looking to get a ceiling contractor to begin works on the second floor.
