Project summary
During the last few weeks we’ve been very busy on site, having set up the cabins with office space and welfare facilities including a canteen area.
Various surveys have also been undertaken to help us establish the works needing to be carried out. Surveys have been conducted on the following areas;
- Window surveys to expose the edge of the slab in preparation for the structural engineer
- Ecology surveys
- Soil investigation
- Surveys to idenfity the new extension footprint to prepare the area for future works.
Vic Couplands, our mechanical and electrical contractor, has been on site installing temporary lighting throughout the build, as well as providing temporary power to all floors for the demolition phase of works. They’ve also been undertaking a watching brief which has allowed us to identify any existing services which can be used in the future and identify those needing to be removed. Yorkshire Demolition have been working on site stripping out the building from the second floor, working their way down to the first floor and throughout the building.
The second floor has been stripped and floor preparation works are well underway, with works already completed on the second floor. We’ve made good progress on the first floor and should be moving down to the ground floor very shortly. All the ceiling tiles and grid have been removed on the first floor and roughly 80% of the former classrooms have been stripped.
The groundworks team from Sewell Construction Services have been on site helping us undertake some ground investigation works and locating of some existing sheet piles within the new extension footprint.
HD Decorating have made good progress on the second floor too, completing filling works and mist coating to the walls. They’re now pushing on down to the first floor following the demolition gang.
