About the project

This project comprises construction of a new-build extension, which will significantly increase the school’s overall performance and address ongoing space shortages. Currently, due to high pupil numbers and a lack of adequate classroom provision, the school is being forced to repurpose specialist areas such as creative arts and design rooms as standard teaching spaces. This not only limits the curriculum offering but also impacts the learning experience for students across various year groups.

The new extension will provide purpose-built classrooms and learning environments that better support the school’s academic needs and long-term growth. Internally, the project also involves remodelling of existing areas within the school to improve efficiency, modernise facilities, and better align the layout with the current and future needs of staff and students.

Externally, the scheme includes the creation of a new track area to increase recreational space, as well as upgraded pedestrian pathways for improved circulation around the site. Additionally, new gated and fenced access points will be installed to enhance safeguarding measures to the pre-school area.

A key consideration throughout the project is that the school will remain live and fully operational while the works are carried out. This presents both logistical and safety challenges, requiring close coordination with the school leadership team and a carefully phased programme of works.

Progress so far

Extension build:

  • The main foundation concrete slab has been completed
  • The structural steel frame has been successfully installed
  • Brick and blockwork construction for the new extension is ongoing and progressing well

External works:

  • The track installation on the main field is complete up to resin finish. However, the final resin application has been delayed due to adverse weather conditions, as three consecutive dry days are required to carry this out. This will be scheduled once suitable conditions allow
  • Rear Germany Beck works have been completed which comprises installation of new rear gate with intercom, fencing around Pre-School, newly installed bike shelter and landscaping works

Internal Works:

  • Summer refurbishment works on the hygiene room and male WC have been completed

The Considerate Constructors Scheme visit has been carried out on the 22nd August. The site team scored 45/45, so a perfect score. With 2 extra points, totalling 47!

A HSE visit was also carried out, and they were very happy with how health and safety is being manged on site.
