Project Introduction

We’re approaching the end of our refurbishment works on Level 11 and Level 13 at The University of Leeds Social Sciences building. Home to Politics & International Studies, Leeds Social Sciences Institute and the Sociology & Social Policy, the University appointed us to refresh the learning areas – including electrical & mechanical works, new glass partitions and decorations.

Progress so far

We have made good progress over the last few weeks with the trades currently working together to get the project ready for handover. The last bits of the joinery works are being completed with architraves and skirtings being installed. The painter and decorator is following up the joiner and piecing in the woodwork with the last final touches.

The flooring has been installed within the rooms along with the glass partitions, with the finishing touches occurring this week. Electrical and Mechanical works are nearly complete, with the testing and commissioning part of the works beginning this week. Furniture will be arriving ready for installation, allowing us to install it in time for handover. The cleaners will also be coming in to clean the whole area, so that it will ready for use by the end user. The hoarding will also be coming down in the coming days so that the space is accessible for the students upon completion.

This project has had a few challenges along the way, such as operating in a live building. This means that the project programme had to be carefully planned so that any disruptive works wouldn't effect the neighbouring students and staff, and that deliveries didn't affect student movements.
