Commencement of work

We are proud to be building on our successful track record of providing health facilities within the region. Working in partnership with Citycare to design and construct a cost-effective, affordable facility that will meet the needs of the local area. We have a commitment towards communities and want to work with local residents and the wider population throughout the construction phase to ensure disruption is minimal, whilst adding social and economic value to the local area.

The new medical centre will offer a mixture of treatment rooms, consultation space for GP’s and Nurses, office and clinical support space and will span over two expansive floors offering effective patient care. There will be a large adjoining Pharmacy linked to the main entrance and dual elevators are to be incorporated to facilitate wheelchair access.

The Health Hub will be hugely beneficial to the local community and is set to replace the outdated Springhead Medical Centre.

Progress so far

Site access has been installed with a link road off Calvert Lane. The initial temporary site welfare has been installed in a central location on site and will be replaced with a more substantial permanent open-plan welfare in the coming weeks. The pad foundations are currently being laid for the new welfare which will be relocated to the west end of the site within the new car park area. The open-plan layout will create more space for when additional contractors attend site.

Construction has also started on the foundations of the new medical centre which will be structurally supported on ground beams spanned across 137 concrete piles. The piling mat was handed over following testing allowing for piling to progress. The piling is now mid-way through and is due to be completed early next week.

Timber fence hoarding has been erected around the front and one side of the site, this will soon incorporate two sets of main site gates creating a one-way traffic system within the site boundary.

Construction of our on-site car park is now underway with the crushed stone sub-base in place. Once this receives a tarmac finish in mid-January it will provide additional contractor parking on-site.

Over the next two weeks

Over the coming weeks, the main building foundations and drainage works will commence, seeing ground beams installed along with the lift pit. The new open-plan welfare will be delivered and set up, plus the car park will receive a new Tarmac surface, making it accessible from mid-January. The medical centre's steel frame erection is planned for early 2021.
