York St John University: Design Centre

Welcome to the first newsletter for York St John University’s Design Centre project.

The Design Centre seeks to expand provision of a range of specialist programmes utilising computer science, augmented reality and virtual reality.

The redevelopment of this extension, alongside other internal alterations and related projects, is designed to enable the above programmes to function and is a requirement which cannot be met elsewhere on the campus. It will also considerably enhance the thermal performance and sustainability of the building in line with improvements made throughout the rest of the estate.

The works comprise the following:

  • Minor refurbishment and internal remodelling works (ground floor classroom)
  • Demolition of an existing 1990’s extension and construction of new build teaching facility, including refurbishment of the pyramid roof
  • External landscaping proposals including soft and hard landscaping surfaces, accessible ramp to provide level access to the front entrance, an approximately 150sqm pond and other planting
